Special Prompt #5 – Hannah F

The floorboards creaked as I crept up the stairs.

Spiderwebs were streaked against the banister, and the arachnids scuttled for cover as the light from my torch fell on their webs. This house was said to be haunted, and abandoned for 100 years, yet I could hear the shaky breathing from upstairs.

The chandelier swung from side to side when I passed underneath it. Suddenly, a distant sound like a metallic chain came from upstairs. The torchlight flickered.

The door creaked open as I snuck towards it. I shone my torch in the room, but as it died, it moved.

  1. Hello Hannah F,

One of the powers of a good writer is the ability, through words, to create images in the minds of readers. You did this for me in exactly 100 words.
By the end of your story, I was left with one unanswered question. What was “it”? The thought intrigued me.
