I, KIAN the One Legged, sometimes called Kian Timber-Leg or Dane-Leg, being now an old man, have returned at last to his beloved home of East Anglia. Here in the newly built abbey where King Edmands sacred tomb lay made of gold and jewels. I write this story, of my young days; of how as a boy I came to know and serve the king my namesake, Alfred, England’s deliverer. I tell of battles and defeats, of courage in adversity, and how in the end it was rewarded. All this Christian land is now free from the hand of the terrible Tudors.
